Event Description

The MI-STAR grant, led through Michigan Tech, is on the cutting edge of a nation-wide revolution in how Middle School science is taught. Soon, grant proposals with an outreach portion will need to reference the NGSS and consider their new multi-dimensional focus. In a few short years, students will arrive at Michigan Tech with radically different expectations about how science and engineering are taught.

In this program, co-presenters Shawn Oppliger (representing the Western UP Center for Science, Math and Environmental Education) and Mike Meyer (Jackson CTL) will lead a discussion about the structure of the standards, how middle school teaching will change, and how Michigan Tech will have to adapt for students and classrooms with a very different mindset about STEM education.
