Join us for insight into how research shapes Michigan Tech's identity and learn valuable skills for better describing our university's research landscape. This session aims to broaden staff understanding of our institution's research dynamics, fostering a more informed and engaged campus community.
This presentation goes behind-the-scenes of Michigan Tech's evolving research ecosystem, highlighting the mechanisms that support our continued research growth. Recent growth leads to our transition to Carnegie R1 classification, indicating our place in the top group of research institutions in the U.S. We'll explore the research lifecycle from the beginning when it’s just an idea to the end when the funded project is over, shedding light on the efforts of Michigan Tech’s many types of researchers and the unique pressures they face. We’ll highlight how Michigan Tech staff in various roles can support research at different stages.
Michigan Tech encounters both challenges and opportunities in research, due to our size, our student body make-up, our location, and our academic focus areas. We'll discuss how our shift towards a research-intensive narrative not only enhances our reputation as a research institution but also attracts high-caliber students and strengthens our educational mission.
